July 23rd, 2006: 'ENDANGERED SPECIES' is completed in time for its inclusion in Tony White's new book, 'Animation from Pencils to Pixels ~ Classical Techniques for Digital Animators'. This film... a personal homage to some of the classical moments in animation history... took four years to make and was created specifically to illustrate the book.
August 2006: 'ANIMATION from PENCILS to PIXELS ~ Classical Techniques for Digital Animators' is published by Focal Press. Signing events are currently being arranged for SIGGRAPH '06 event in Boston. This book, three years in the writing, is Tony's first since publishing his best-selling 'THE ANIMATOR'S WORKBOOK' in 1986.
November 17th/18th 2006: The ANIMATICUS FOUNDATION hosted its inaugural animation festival at the Historic Theatre, Everett, WA. The '2D OR NOT 2D Animation Festival' presented, in and out of competition, films that were mainly traditionally animated. Keynote speaker was Roy E Disney, who presented a history of Disney studio short films, from 'Steamboat Willie' to 'Lorenzo '. Other keynote speakers included Tom Wilson and Nancy Beiman. December 2006: Following the great success of the inaugural '2D OR NOT 2D Animation Festival' it was announced that the next festival will take place on November 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 2007.
February 2007: The Animaticus Foundation's first DVD Showreel is produced... containing all the very best of its current work, plus an extensive archive collection of founder Tony White's previous award-winning work. To view a section of the showreel compilation, click HERE.
April 2007: The Animaticus Foundation's first short film production, 'Fire Gods', is completed and premiered at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma. The film... created using 2D, 3D, Cut-out and Flash animated techniques... presents the history of glass and glassmaking, featuring animated presenters 'Ash' and 'Burnie'. This 10-minute film offered a unique opportunity for director Tony White's students to work and gain experience on a 'real' production, outside of their more conventional student assignments. April 2007: The 2007 '2D OR NOT 2D Animation Festival' is launched. Invitations to entries can be found on the www.withoutabox.com website.
May 2007: The Animaticus Foundation recieves its 501(c)3 accreditation status from the IRS, enabling the organization to seek sponsor donations and non-profit grants to pursue their objectives of preserving, teaching and evolving the art of traditional 2D animation in a digital world.
May 2007: Tony White and Saille Schumacher represent the Animaticus Foundation at the outstanding International School in Bellvue, WA for their annual Senior Project finals presentations. Millie Fung introduced her impressive 40-second, anti-smoking animated film for judging. The film was exceptional, considering that Millie was virtually forced to work alone for the entire production period. Millie hopes to pursue a career in chemistry, although Tony and Saille hope that she does not neglect her impressive skills in animated filmmaking in the future.
