'2D OR NOT 2D Animation Festival:
The Animaticus Foundation is proud to host its second annual '2D OR NOT 2D Animation Festival' at the Historic Everett Theater in Everett, Washington over the weekend of 2nd, 3rd & 4th November, 2007.
As last year the festival will offer open competition for animators of all persuasions... whether their work be 2D, 3D, Cut-out or Flash based... although it shows special interest in new and innovative 2D-animated work. The festival will therefore consider for exhibition and/or competition any form of animation that brings innovation, quality of execution and/or aesthetic beauty to the medium.
The quality and integrity of the first-time event last year was underlined by the callibre of presenters who supported the festival's objectives. Keynote speaker was Roy E. Disney (first recipient of the festival's highest honor, the 'Roy E. Disney Award'... presented to any individual or organization who have made an outstanding contribution to the 2D animated artform); internationally syndicated cartoonist Tom Wilson (who presented the Emmy-award winning 'Ziggy's Gift'... directed by Richard Williams, with animation supervision by Eric Goldberg); Nancy Beiman (who presented an archive collection of her animated work and introduced her new book from Focal Press, 'Prepare to Board'); and Tony White (who premiered his animated homage to the history of animation, 'Endangered Species', in addition to offering Q&A/signing session opportunities for his new book, 'Animation from Pencils to Pixels ~ Classical Techniques for Digital Animators').
In the competitive arena, awards were presented for 'best film' and 'best animation in a film' in each of the '2D', 'All-form', 'Student films' and 'Digital Media' categories.
